Families Discuss Signs

The choking game is a way to “get high” without putting dangerous chemicals into your body and without being detected. Children, teens and adults are experimenting with the choking game.

Red eyes, headaches and stomach aches are signs that children have/had and the parent’s don’t link them to the choking game until it is too late. The consequences of this aren’t dialed into the brains of the ones experimenting with this deadly game. Many parents don’t know about it, and many kids do know about it, but they don’t know the dangers. Most cases are deemed as an “undetermined” death, some cases get deemed as “suicide”.

Educating people on this will help stop it from happening to other families. If you have children, whether you suspect them to be doing it or not, please talk to them about it. Make them aware of the risks and fatal dangers.

A Brother’s Love

It has been 14 months, and some days are worse than others.

Grief Counseling; Something that has been hard to do, but you can find peace in doing it. Grief counseling doesn’t mean just going to a counselor; it can be just talking to friends, family, or even just writing your feelings down. We have latched on to writing, for example this website. This has been one of the best coping mechanisms.

When tragedies hit close to home, it is important to watch the behaviors and attitudes of not only the adults, but of the children affected by the event. Let your children know that it is okay to grieve, that it is actually healthy to let your emotions out. In most cases, it helps to find a new normal in life. Though we all know that we can’t bring Joshua back, we let his legacy live on through our memories, and sharing his story.

Faith in God; Our Faith has been the biggest help for getting through this. Knowing that we will indeed see Joshua again brings great comfort in our lives. The power of prayer is an amazing thing. Taking time out of your day to pray will also bring great comfort. God works in mysterious ways. Take pride in your faith and don’t be afraid to ask God for help. Talk to him always, on good days and on bad days. He is the best listener.

Children are the best advocates. Cj, Joshua’s little brother, is 5 years old today and he too talks about Joshua and the choking game. Don’t be afraid to tell your children about the choking game. Children are more apt to listen to other children.

Please do your part and help us spread awareness. Tell a friend, and don’t be afraid to talk to your children about the risks of the choking game.

God Bless.

Different Versions of the “GAME”

After doing extensive reserch on the choking game, we have found other corrolations to the choking game. Childrent are doing this in many other forms that are less noticable to the look of foul play. Please check these out, if your child or a child you know partakes in this, they too may be doing a different version of the choking game. The same effects happen with all of these.

  • Holding their breath
  • Under water breath holding
  • Spinning around in a circle to get the “dizzy” feeling
  • Hanging upside down
  • Doing abnormal breathing patterns
  • Cutting off the oxygen supply by a ligature
  • Adrenaline junkie

These are other forms of the choking game. When looking back on all of these, there are many similarities. The outcome is the same, you get that “rush” feeling from each of them.

If your child is doing any of these, please talk to them and ask the question about the choking game. You may never know if your child is doing participating in this fatal activity unless you ask.

From all of us at WildfarmKids, make a difference in a child’s life. Spread awareness.

“How it feels to black out” — The 60 Minutes Special

Many of you have seen the recent 60 Minutes episode on “How it feels to black out“, with interviews from divers. “Free-diving champions Tanya Streeter and William Trubridge describe their experiences with blacking out underwater, and tell Bob Simon it isn’t as dangerous or unpleasant as you might think.” Now, everyone that knows anything about blacking out, knows this is indeed dangerous. This is a perfect example of the amount of ignorance in people. In this interview it was stated that it isn’t dangerous to black out if the right people are around..

FALSE. Blacking out is dangerous no matter who is/isn’t around. Blocking oxygen from your brain can cause serious damage, and in many cases around the world, it can be fatal.

Watching this on 60 Minutes was very hard. Especially with all of the inaccurate facts. I hope everyone realizes the lack of truth in this episode of 60 Minutes.

Parents and Guardians, please talk to your children about the risks of blacking out, passing out, playing the choking game, etc. It is real and taking the lives of youth around the world.

Help awareness, spread the word.

Club 56

With the Christmas season in full swing, we wanted to talk about something that was very important to Joshua, his faith. Joshua was always very excited to go to Sunday School, AWANA, VBS, Youth Group and Church. His Faith is a topic that if you got him started on, he would talk your ear off.

Joshua had awesome Sunday School teachers growing up that led to his love and understanding. Paige Chapman and  Rhonda Zarr were his 5th grade Sunday school teachers. My mom and I got the pleasure of being his teachers for 6th grade. If you were ever around Joshua at Church, you would know that this kid truly got it, and let you know it.

While in 5th grade he claimed his favorite verse, Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” He wrote this on everything. This is the verse we put on the inside of his bracelets. While learning about this part of the Bible, Joshua also learned why his parents gave him the name Joshua.

Joshua would want all of you to learn and know the Word of God. We hope that each and every one of you has Jesus in your hearts.

We hope that everyone has a blessed Christmas! Hug your families, and tell them you love them.

Blessings,

♥ WildfarmKids, Joshua Leo Engle Family

His New Home

A year ago today we laid Joshua to rest. I can still remember everything about the funeral like it was yesterday. I felt as though I was planning his graduation party. I had to pick out his favorite songs, make a slideshow of pictures, welcome hundreds of guests for six hours straight, and stand up in front of everyone and talk about him. I miss my little brother more and more each day. He has made a lasting impression on a lot of people’s heart, and hearing stories from so many people about what an amazing kid he was makes me so proud to be his big sister.

When I think about life here, it makes me so excited to go to our home, in Heaven. Where everything is perfect and we can be with loved ones we have lost, and some we never knew. Thinking about that gives me strength. I know that we will all meet again someday, but the wait is hard. It is hard to let go of someone you love so much and who has impacted your life so much. As much as I love my little brother and want him back and miss him, I could never want to take him away from the beautiful place that he is right now.

Pine Hill Cemetery, where Joshua is, is a beautiful place. It is so peaceful to go there to visit Him. This photo was taken at about 5:00AM this morning. You can see the full moon right over him. My littlest brother, CJ, reminded me yesterday, “Joshua is always with us, because he is in our heart.”

Please talk to your children about the dangerous things they could be doing. Warning signs are real, and if you know what they are, you can prevent bad things from happening.

Prayers for a Teacher

Followers, we need your prayers for one of Joshua’s teachers, DeeAnn Johnson. She is currently in the hospital and needs a miracle.

Here is her story;

On June 9th, 2011, I was diagnosed with melanoma. Over the course of June and July of that year I endured through two surgeries, one to remove the melanoma from my arm and the other to biopsy some lymph nodes. During this time I received the news that I had a 1 in 28 chance of the cancer spreading, as it was discovered in only one lymph node. I chose to start preventative care with one month of autoimmune treatments of Interferon as an out-patient and began my at-home injections in October, which lasted through March of 2012.

DeeAnn rested well throughout the night & this morning. We were fortunate to have friends & family make the trip overnight. We are also thankful that her parents & brothers & sister could be here.
DeeAnn is doing a second round of radiation which will hopefully relieve her of some of the pain she is experiencing.
Dr. Baroker came in early this morning to check on her & speak with us. Though with a miracle the radiation could help, he said that the damage to her brain is irreversible.

Continued prayers & support are much appreciated.

You can follow DeeAnn’s status on her Caring Bridge site. DeeAnn’s Caring Bridge

God Bless,

Lanterns for Leo

Thank-you to everyone that came to celebrate the life of Joshua on November 20th. The lanterns were amazing! We appreciate all the kind words of encouragement. Every day is a new obstacle in life and we couldn’t overcome it without God and the love everyone around us has shown.

Thank-you to everyone who couldn’t make it, but still said a prayer.

Our family is truly blessed. It was amazing to see the love we have around us, and to hear stories of how Joshua touched so many lives. Even though he is no longer here, he is still making a lasting impression on the hearts of people who didn’t get a chance to meet him. We thank God everyday for giving us Joshua for 13 years, what a blessing he is.

Thanks again for everything!!
